Stability parameter estimation at ambient temperature from studies at elevated temperatures
Touridomon Issa Some, Philippe Bogaerts, Raymond Hanus, Jacques Dubois and Michel Hanocq
The determination of specific kinetic constants ki in pH–profile studies is often undertaken at ambient temperature. However, when dealing with a drug substance that is stable at ambient temperature, the pH–profile study is conducted at a chosen elevated temperature and the kinetic parameters are given at this particular elevated temperature.(...)

Modulation by propranolol of the uptake of ethidium bromide by rat submandibular acinar cells exposed to a P2X7 agonist or to maitotoxin
E. KABRE
We have compared the formation of pores in rat submandibular acinar cells in response to 2′, 3′-O-(4-benzoylbenzoyl) adenosine 5′-triphosphate (Bz-ATP) and maitotoxin. Bz-ATP (100 μM) permeabilized the cells to ethidium bromide. The uptake of ethidium increased to 29±1% of maximal uptake in 10 min. dl-Propranolol (300 μM) inhibited the Bz-ATP-(...)

Polysaccharide hydrolases from Boscia senegalensis: purification and characterization of endo-1,3-beta-glucanase
DICKO Mamoudou. H., Searle-van LEEUWEN, HILHORST, R., TRAORE, A. S. and Beldman, G.
The leaves of Boscia senegalensis are traditionally used in West Africa in cereal protection against pathogens, pharmacologic applications, and food processing. Activities of a-amylase, b-amylase, exo-(1®3, 1®4)-b-Dglucanase, and endo-(1®3)-b-D-glucanase were detected in these leaves. The endo-(1®3)-b-D-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.39) was purified 203(...)

The lower susceptibility to Plasmpdium falciparum malaria of Fulani of Burkina Faso (West Africa) is associated with low frequencies of classic malaria-resistance …
K. SIMPORE
The gene frequencies in 1993–1994 for haemoglobin S, haemoglobin C, alpha− 37 deletional thalassaemia, G6PDA−, HLA B∗ 5301 were estimated in Fulani, Mossi and Rimaibé ethnic groups of Burkina Faso, West Africa. The aim of the study was to verify whether the previously reported Fulani lower susceptibility to Plasmodium falciparum malaria was as(...)

Chromatographic determination of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine in cellular DNA: A validation study
Pierre Duez, M Helson, Touridomon Issa Some, Jacques Dubois and M Hanocq
Although a series of biomarkers are widely used for the estimation of oxidative damage to biomolecules, validations of the analytical methods have seldom been presented. Formal validation, that is the study of the analytical performances of a method, is however recognized as the best safeguard against the generation and publication of data wit(...)

Extraction, partial purification and characterization of beta-amylase from Gladiolus klattianus
DICKO Mamoudou. H., Searle-van LEEUWEN, HILHORST, R. and TRAORE, A. S.
The bulbs of Gladiolus klattianus are used in Burkina Faso in food processing. Activities of a-amylase and b-amylase were reported within those bulbs for the ®rst time. The puri®cation of the b-amylase involved bu€er extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation and gel filtration chromatography. The enzyme was puri®ed 47 fold with 75% yield, giv(...)

Improved kinetic parameter estimation in pH-profile data treatment
I T Some, P Bogaerts, R Hanus, M Hanocq, J Dubois
Statistical problems in temperature stability parameter estimation have been the subject of many papers whereas statistics in, pH-profile parameter estimation have focused little attention. However, the conventional two step method used in data treatment in both cases leads to identical statistical problems. The aim of this study is then to in(...)

Séroprévalence des rickettsioses et de la fièvre Q chez les patients hospitalisés fébriles de Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso)
Ki-Zerbo G, Tall FR, Nagalo K, Ledru E, Durand G, Patey O.

Bromoenol lactone enhances the permeabilization of rat submandibular acinar cells by P2X7 agonists
E. KABRE
The uptake of ethidium bromide by acini incubated at 37°C in the presence of 1 mM ATP increased
with time and reached after 5 min about 10% of maximal uptake measured in the presence of
digitonin … The response to ATP was dose-dependent (half-maximal concentration around
40 μM) and it was decreased when the temperature was lowered to 25°(...)

Nucleation and growth in electrodeposition of metals on n-Si(111)
R. Krumm a, B. Guel b, C. Schmitz a, G. Staikov a,*
Initial stages of electrodeposition of Tl, Cd and Cu on n-Si(111) from sulfate electrolyte solutions are studied using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. Capacitance measurements in metal ion free solutions were used to determine the flat band potential of n-Si. Results show that the relative position of the metal equilibrium potential(...)

Isolation and characterization of Desulfovibrio burkinensis sp. nov. from an African ricefield, and phylogeny of Desulfovibrio alcoholivorans
A. S. Ouattara, B. K. C. Patel, J.-L. Cayol, N. Cuzin, A. S. Traore and J.-L. Garcia
A sulfate-reducing bacterium, strain HDvT (T¯type strain), was isolated from an anoxic ricefield soil. Cells were Gram-negative, non-sporulating curved rods motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Cytochrome c3 and desulfoviridin
were present. In the presence of sulfate, glycerol, 1,2- and 1,3-propanediol, dihydroxyacetone, pyruvate, lac(...)

Incorporating batch effects in the estimation of drug stability parameters using an Arrhenius model
I T Some, P Bogaerts, R Hanus, M Hanocq, J Dubois
The nonlinear estimation of drug stability parameters (energy of activation E a and shelf-life t Y) by conventional approaches employs equations relating drug content determination C at time t and temperature T. The identification procedures lead to the determination of only one initial drug content C 0 for several different experiments. Howev(...)

Study on the activation of phospholipases A 2 by purinergic agonists in rat submandibular ductal cells
E. KABRE
Extracellular ATP and benzoyl-ATP (Bz-ATP) increased the release of [3H] arachidonic acid ([3H] AA) from prelabeled rat submandibular gland (RSMG) ductal cells respectively two-and threefold. Both agonists also increased the release of [3H] AA from acini but at a lower level (+ 50% and+ 100% respectively). Carbachol had no significant effect o(...)

Activation by P2X7 Agonists of Two Phospholipases A2 (PLA2) in Ductal Cells of Rat Submandibular Gland COUPLING OF THE CALCIUM-INDEPENDENT PLA2 W...
E. KABRE
Isolated ductal cells of rat submandibular gland phospholipid pools were labeled with [3 H] arachidonic acid (AA). The tracer was incorporated preferentially to phosphatidylcholine (46% of the lipidic fraction). Extracellular ATP induced the release of [3 H] AA to the extracellular medium in a time-and dose-dependent manner (EC 50= 220 μ m). A(...)
