Femmes et Pouvoir : Analyse socio-anthropologique des formes d’engagement politique des femmes au Burkina Faso

Résumé

In Burkina Faso, six decades after independence, women are still under-represented in the political and decision-making spheres. In fact, out of one hundred and twenty-seven seats in parliament in 2015, there were 18 women, a rate of 14%. This rate remains below the 30% threshold recommended by law. Parliament remains a largely male-dominated body. With a view to identifying the determinants that explain this under-representation, this article sets out to understand the forms of commitment and the motives behind women's entry into politics in the context of Burkina Faso. Based on a qualitative research study conducted in Ouagadougou, semi-structured interviews were conducted with women parliamentarians, activists and municipal councillors in Ouagadougou between 2015 and 2021. The results show that three forms are observed in the process of women's political commitment, ranging from political inheritance, the situational mode and the recruitment mode. The study also reveals a link between social capital and women's involvement in the political sphere Whatever the form observed, the basis of commitment is expressed as a positioning aimed at serving citizens, institutions and society.
