Identification of Polymorphic Microsatellite Markers Linked to Cowpea Resistance to Cowpea Aphid Borne Mosaic Virus (CABMV) in Burkina Faso
Barro Antoine1*, Tignegre Jean Baptiste De La Salle2, Kiebre Zakaria1, Drabo Issa3 and Sawadogo Mahamadou1
Cowpea is rich in proteins and contains essential amino acids. It is used for
nutrition. For the producers, it is an important source of incomes. Cowpea is mainly
grown for its grains, its leaves, its young pods. However several viral diseases
attack cowpea. The most dangerous one is yellow mosaic transmitted by aphids or

Evaluation de la résistance de quelques lignées et écotypes de niébé (Vigna unguiculata (L.) WALP.) au Cowpea Aphid-Borne Mosaic Virus au Burkina Faso
Antoine BARRO1, Mahamadou SAWADOGO1, Zakaria KIEBRE1, and Bouma James NEYA2
Cowpea, Vigna unguiculata [L] Walp, is one of the most important grain legume grown in all arid and semi-arid
regions of Africa. It contributes to reduce malnutrition and poverty and to achieve food security as well. However, cowpea
production is hampered by many biotic and abiotic stresses which include viral diseases. Cowpea mosaic caused(...)

Occurrence and Antibiotic Susceptibility of Aerococcus and Enterococcus Strains Isolated from Acute and Chronic Cellulites of Dental Origin in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
Kaboré WAD, Ali Konaté, Réné Dembelé, K Konaté, B. Faye, Dieu‐Donné Ouedraogo, Sylvie Boisramé, Traoré AS, Nicolas Barro, Lassana Sangaré
Cellulites of dental origin are extensive polymicrobial infections of the face and neck cell-adipose tissues. Management of infections of this nature presents significant challenges. The key to this is the identification of the causative organisms and determination of their susceptibility to antibiotics. Enterococcus and Aerococcus are pathoge(...)

Success of three soil restoration techniques on seedling survival and growth of three plant species in the Sahel of Burkina Faso (West Africa)
Philippe Bayen, Anne Mette Lykke, Adjima Thiombiano
In the Sahel of Africa, where 90 % of the population depends on natural resources for their livelihood, a large part of the soils are structurally unstable, prone to crusting and hard setting, and have low water holding capacity, which hamper vegetation establishment. The effect of soil restoration techniques on survival and growth of seedling(...)

Aspects of natural history in a sand boa,Eryx muelleri(Erycidae) from arid savannahs in Burkina Faso, Togo, and Nigeria (West Africa)
Leonardo Vignoli, Gabriel Hoinsoudé Segniagbeto, Edem A. Eniang, Emmanuel M. Hema, Fabio Petrozzi, Godfrey C. Akani, Luca Luiselli
The ecology of West African arid savannah snakes is still poorly known, especially in regard to the fossorial species. Here, field data on distribution, morphometrics, habitat use and diet are reported for the sand boa Eryx muelleri (Erycidae) from three different countries, i.e. Burkina Faso, Togo and Nigeria. This snake was observed in 21 di(...)

Does Jatropha curcas L. show resistance to drought in the Sahelian zone of West Africa? A case study from Burkina Faso
Philippe Bayen, Tene Kwetche Sop, Anne Mette Lykke, Adjima Thiombiano
Abstract. Land degradation is an environmental problem which weakens agro-sylvo-pastoral productivity in sub-Saharan Africa. The most common manifestation of land degradation is the appearance of denuded land. We carried out an experiment to test the effect of three soil and water conservation techniques on survival and growth of Jatropha curc(...)

Resistance to a wide variety of common antimicrobials is observed among clinical strains designed as extended spectrum β-lactmase (ESBL) producers. They produce enzymatic protein which inactivates efficiently oxyimino cephalosporin and constitutes a serious global health concern that has complicated treatment strategies. Many studies report hi(...)

The use of biomass production and allometric models to estimate carbon sequestration of Jatropha curcas L. plantations in western Burkina Faso
Philippe Bayen, Fidèle Bognounou, Anne Mette Lykke, Makido Ouédraogo, Adjima Thiombiano
The topic of carbon sequestration in plants has received much attention recently due to concerns about global climate change, which is being exacerbated by deforestation. In the early days of the global bioenergy boom, the private sector and non-government organizations enthusiastically promoted the planting of Jatropha curcas L. as a key cand(...)
