Résumé

For centuries, people have been interested in natural dyes for dyeing
applications. Natural dyes are known for their phytochemical properties, which
are highly sought-after in many fields, including dyeing. The extraction of compounds
from plant matter is the key to obtaining the dyestuff. A number of research
projects have focused on finding and developing better extraction methods. Modern
environmentally-friendly extraction methods, such as microwaves, accelerated
solvents and ultrasound, are in the ascendancy. The aim of this study was to compare
three methods of extracting natural dyes from the bark of Mitragyna Inermis, a
plant belonging to the Rubiaceae family, for use in textiles. The methods evaluated
were maceration, digestion and ultrasound- assisted extraction. The three extraction
methods were optimized according to the parameter’s extraction temperature
and extraction time. The effectiveness of each method was assessed by calculating
the extraction yield after optimization and measuring the colour strength (K/S)
after application to fabric.
