INTRODUCTION: Hypertension in black is more frequent with early onset and clinically more severe. The blood pressure control and the decrease of global cardiovascular risk are two main goals of the treatment of hypertension. The objectives of this study were to determine the proportion of uncontrolled hypertension in hypertensive patients followed as outpatients and to investigate the factors associated with poor control. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study including 456 hypertensive patients known and followed as outpatients. Blood pressure measurement was performed between 8 am and 12 noon both arms in the supine position, after a compliance averaging 8 minutes of rest.
